At the classroom, talk to Quistis, return to your seat and access the study panel. View the Tutorial to get your first two Guardian Forces: Quezacotl and Shiva. The "Garden Festival Committee" is only available after you meet Selphie. Under this section there is Laguna's page, which you can view after you've collected a Timber Maniacs issue. Leave the classroom, go down the corridor and head right. Get 7 cards from the man along the walkway and enter the elevator. If you opted to show the girl around, take her to the directory at the lobby. Go the library (use the directory to shortcut) to collect Occult Fan I from the front bookshelves and draw Esuna from the top-end bookshelves.

* Zell's quest: Talk to the Library girl with the pigtail at the counter.

Return to the lobby and head downward and meet Quistis at the front gate. Whilst on the World Map you can save game at any time. You'll also encounter random battles on the world map. Fight some monsters on the world map, using them to stock up on magic, level up and gain AP for your GFs to learn the Boost ability. Head east to the Fire Cavern.

Strategy: Summon GF Shiva and use Boost. Draw and use Cure when needed. Scan frequently to check Ifrit's HP and defeat him as close to the time limit expiry as possible. Finish him with a normal attack. Give allowance for another 10 seconds after you've knocked out his HP (if you time the deathblow at 25 seconds you should score full marks).

Return to Balamb Garden, go to the dormitory and change clothes. Go to the lobby. [FMV]. Head west into Balamb and board the ship (You don't encounter enemies while in a car). Obey Seifer's order to go outside. [FMV]. Seifer's Limit Break can be executed at 40% of his maximum HP. Follow Seifer until you reach the central square. You'll encounter several G-Soldiers on the way. Use them to stock up on magic. When Seifer asks you to scout around, engage the enemies in the top-right. Talk to Seifer while you wait, then follow him up the mountain. On the way you'll fight a sub boss at the stairs.

Boss - Anacondaur

Win: 4x M-Stone Piece or 2x Venom Fang

Strategy: Its attack can cause Poison status. Use an Antidote or Remedy to cure the status change. Summon GF Shiva with boost and finish with normal attacks.

The Communication Tower

Continue upward to the front of the Comm Tower. Seifer runs off and Selphie joins your party. Re-junction Seifer's junctions to her. Enter the tower by going around. Run around the 1F to fight some G-Soldiers and score those 75+ kills. Get on the elevator. [FMV]. Prepare for a boss battle at the top.

Strategy: First you face Biggs alone. Cast Blind on him and stock up on Esuna. Wedge will join him soon after. Use normal attacks. Focus your attacks on Biggs - once you defeat one of them, both will be blown away. Alternatively, you can quickly dispense them both with a few GF summonings.

Boss - Elvoret

Strategy: Draw GF Siren, cast Blind and stock up on Double. Limit Breaks are a killer since it has very low Defense. Execute Limit Breaks when you drop to critical HP then use Selphie's Limit Break to cast Full-Cure.

Summon Attack: Silent Voice - non-elemental with Silence status

You have 30 minutes to return to the shore. Go down the elevator. Exit the tower to fight the next boss.

Boss - X-ATM092 (Black Widow)

Level: 11, HP: 5,872

Draw: Fire, Blizzard, Cure, Protect

Notes: Weak against Thunder. Poison has no effect.

Win: 50 AP - each time you fully deplete its HP.

Strategy: Junction Thunder to Squall's Elem-Atk and junction another magic to his Str stat. Keep Squall in critical HP and unleash Renzokuken. Junction Quezacotl to Zell or Selphie and summon with boost. Maintain Squall's HP at maximum critical. If you fully KO the boss's HP, Zell will say "Huh, is it repairing itself!?" You must then damage it again to escape. You cannot destroy X-ATM092 in this battle - you must escape. It can be destroyed at the bridge. It will still repair itself but persistence will prevail. If you destroy X-ATM092, you'll encounter random battles on your way back to the shore, miss out on the FMV, and your exam results will be negatively affected.

Hot Pursuit

Balamb

Back at the harbor go to Balamb hotel, pay 100 Gil to stay there and fully recover your HP. Get the Timber Maniacs issue on the table next to the Save Point. There's a Junk Shop left of the town center. Return to Balamb Garden.

SeeD Graduation

Go to the Lobby then head right to meet Seifer. Go to the 2F hallway and wait for the Garden Faculty. You'll be called up and promoted to a SeeD member. Once you receive your report talk to him again to receive a Battle Meter, which is accessible under the Information screens in the Tutorial menu. After the inauguration return to the 2F hallway. From this point onward you can select the Test option from the Tutorial menu.

SeeD Tests

As a SeeD member you'll earn a salary at regular intervals. The salary is determined by your SeeD rank. When you pass a test level your rank is increased. You can only sit the tests up to the level that Squall is currently at. You'll receive your payment based on the number of steps taken. The SeeD rank/salary is correlated to your actions in battles and how many enemies you've defeated. The highest SeeD rank is 'A' which earns 30,000 Gil. Below are the answers for all the tests.

At the dormitory talk to Selphie, change clothes then talk to her again. [*FMV*]. After the conversation with Quistis, return to the dormitory and change clothes. Proceed to the training center and meet Quistis in the hallway.

Training Center - Secret Area

Go through the left door and travel clockwise around the training center. Head upward to the far back where you'll find a Save Point. Go through the illuminated door to the secret area. After the conversation, go right and return to the entrance to fight a boss.

Sub Boss - T-Rexaur

Strategy: Cast Blind on the first move as Diablos's physical attacks can cause significant damage or kill you straight after he has used magic. Attacks: Demi - 1/4 damage to one member, Gravija - 3/4 damage to whole party. If your HP drops to critical when he uses these spells, execute Limit Breaks. Use Selphie's Limit Break last to Full Cure everyone after Zell and Squall have used their Limit Breaks. Draw and stock Demi. When Diablos attacks you, you can cast your stocked Demi and he will heal you with Curaga.

When you regain control of Laguna, walk up to the piano. Return upstairs to the front desk and ask the receptionist for Julia's room. Talk to Julia.

Timber Owls

At Timber Station, talk to the guy on the steps, follow him and board another train. Challenge Watts for the Angelo card. Go upward to the last room to meet Rinoa. Follow her to the front cabin and receive a mission briefing. Read the magazine clippings from Anarchist Monthly (four issues) on the back wall of the room. Return to Rinoa's room to get Pet Pals Vol. 2 from the bed. Talk to Watts to start the mission.

The Train Hijack

Follow Rinoa across the rooftops of the train. You must enter two sets of codes to uncouple and couple the trains: three for the first and five for the second. You have five minutes to input both sets of codes. Avoid being spotted by soldiers, as this will decrease your SeeD ranking and restart the mission. Look left or right and if they approach, climb up. For the first set of codes you can input all three in one shot. For the second set, input two codes, pull up and wait for both of the guards to pass then input the last three. Complete both sets successfully on the first attempt to advance one SeeD rank. Prepare your junctions then talk to Rinoa to confront president Deling.

Talk to Rinoa, form a new party and talk to Watts to debark the train. Back at Timber Station, head upward to the Pet Shop to buy GF items and Pet Pals Vol. 3 and 4. Head downward for Junk shop, a Save Point at the hotel lobby and fight some Elite soldiers. Return to the station (in front of the "Galbadia" platform) and go right to the Timber Maniacs building.

Timber Maniacs

Examine the second pile of documents on the right to get the Girl Next Door magazine. Enter the room on the left and search for a Draw Point (Blizzaga). Head upward to the back room and get the Timber Maniacs issue on the right. Talk to the Timber Maniacs crew if you want some background info on the magazine.

TV Station

Leave the building, go right and upward descending the stairs to the pub. On the left of the entrance is an Item Shop. Inside the pub, talk to the drifter and tell him about the card to pass through. Head into the alley and follow the path up the stairs to the outdoor TV. Head upward to the TV station.

Follow Quistis and Rinoa to the house next door to Timber Maniacs. Go upstairs, talk to everyone and leave the house. Reform your party, head right to meet Zone and continue right to the station. Go up the stairs and into the Old Man's house on the left. Keep examining the cupboard and you'll get 500 Gil. Exit, cross the bridge and board the train. Talk to everyone and speak to Zell again (choosing the first option) then get off at the next stop, East Academy Station. Exchange all junctions and magic to Selphie and Quistis, as they will take the place of Kiros and Ward. Head west into the forest valley.

Follow the path up to a Draw Point (Sleep) and encounter some Esthar soldiers at the fork. Take the right path and head left until you reach an intersection. Continue left until you reach three hatches. Inspect the top right corner of the middle hatch and tamper with the lever. Exit then return to the hatches and tamper with the lever on the right one. Head right, return up to the first fork and take the left path. Go upward to a three-way fork. The right path has a Draw Point (Confuse). Climb down the ladder at the end of the middle path. Head downward and continue right to the hatches. Tamper with the left one, return up to the first fork and go back down the right path. Head left until the intersection and go upward until you find a boulder and detonator. Examine the detonator and choose the 2nd option (red switch/long fuse) then the first (blue switch/short fuse). Continue upward and examine the boulder on the left for a hidden Draw Point (Cure). Continue upward until you reach a Save Point, then go upward to a cliff. Fight the Esthar soldiers.

Restore your HP and head west to Galbadia Garden. [FMV]. Go through the gates and into the main hall. Here's a quick tour of the Garden:

1st Floor

Right path - The room on the right has three card players. The room on the left has an ice hockey rink. You cannot presently access the Draw Point on the ice. Go left and enter the locker room for a Draw Point (Life).

Top Path - Head upward to the Athletic track for a Draw Point (Shell).

2nd Floor

There is an Auditorium at the far right with a Draw Point (Double). A hidden Save Point is along the bottom path.

Head upward and go up the stairs on the right. Enter the reception room on the bottom, next to the guard. Talk to Zell, Quistis, Rinoa then Selphie. Head back to the front of the Garden and talk to Rinoa. Martine will arrive and introduce Irvine Kinneas. [FMV]. Talk to Selphie, organise your party then go to the Train Station just west of the Garden and board the train. Talk to everyone, check on Selphie in the next room and rejoin the others.

Take the escalator up and head upward into the city. There's a useful bus system to quickly transport you around the city. When the bus arrives, talk to the conductor to board. Here's a quick tour of Deling City:

Board the bus and get off at the next stop, Caraway's Mansion. Talk to the guard to receive a map. Buy the Location Displayer and ask him to escort you out of town (shortcut to Rent a car store). You can opt to rent a car. Go left to exit to the World Map. Head northeast to find the tomb.

Use the map to navigate the tomb. You can exit the tomb while viewing the map but this decreases your SeeD ranking. Head into the Tomb and find a sword. Examine it to get the ID number. You can navigate the entire tomb in a single pass by going right at every intersection. Keep turning right until you reach a straight path to the farthest right room and fight a boss.

Continue turning right until you exit the tomb then re-enter and go all the way up. Fight the brothers Sacred and Minotaur.

Strategy: Minotaur is more powerful than Sacred. Cast Float on the Brothers to counter their HP regeneration. Draw and cast Double and Protect. Keep Squall at critical HP so he can execute Renzokuken. Use the other two members to maintain Squall's HP for Limit Break while attacking with GFs or stocking up on magic.

Exit the tomb by heading downward and return to Deling City. Return to Caraway's mansion and talk to the guard. Input the ID number and enter the mansion. Talk to Rinoa to meet General Caraway. Follow General Caraway during his briefing and talk to him at the gateway to complete the briefing. Return to Caraway's mansion by heading right at the Gateway. The group will split into two teams for the mission. When you're in control of Quistis go to the door. Sniper team (Squall and Irvine) - follow Cararway and the Gateway team to the gateway. Talk to General Caraway then follow him to the Presidential Residence. Gateway team (Quistis, Zell, Selphie) - return to Caraway's mansion.

Rinoa Meets Edea

As Rinoa, examine the manhole on the right to enter the sewer. Keep heading left and pick up Weapons Monthly May issue. Return back up and climb the crates on the van to reach the rooftop of the Presidential Residence. Approach the chair and examine it. [FMV].

Back in Caraway's Mansion

As Quistis, examine the cabinet on the left to pick up a glass. Go to the statue in the top-left corner of the room and examine it. Enter the secret passage and descend the stairs. Jump on the waterwheel and head upward. [FMV].

Save Rinoa

As Squall, follow Irvine into the Presidential Residence. [FMV]. Prepare your junctions and use the Save Point. Follow Rinoa's path up the crates and onto the rooftop. Enter the Presidential Residence to find Rinoa and fight a boss.

Boss - 2x Iguion

Level: 19, HP: 1,747

Draw: Cure, Esuna, Break, GF Carbuncle

Notes: Weak against Earth and Holy. Fire and Poison has no effect.

Win/Mug: 8x G-Returner, 20 AP / 6x G-Returner

Strategy: Draw Carbuncle. Beware of their Magma Breath attack, which can Petrify one member. Use any GF except Ifrit.

GF Carbuncle

Summon Attack: Ruby Light - Non-Elemental Defensive, cast Reflect on party

Abilities: HP-J, Vit-J, Mag-J, ST-Atk-J, ST-Def-J, ST-Defx2, Abilityx3, HP+20%/40%, Vit+20%/40%, Vit Bonus, Counter, Auto-Reflect, Recov Med-RF menu

After defeating the boss exit the room to the corridor. Examine the hatch to enter the clock tower and grab the sniper rifle.

The Sewer

Gateway team - continue upward to a cross-junction then head left. Examine the ladder to drop it then cross it and head left for a Draw Point (Esuna). Backtrack and go back across the ladder. Continue left to a T-junction and go upward until cross-junction. Head right to another cross-junction and go left along the bottom path to a Draw Point (Zombie). Return to the junction and go down to a Draw Point (Bio). Return to the junction and jump across the two waterwheels. Head all the way downward jumping two more waterwheels on the way to find yourself on the other side of the very first area where you entered the sewer. Collapse the ladder, go right, jump on the waterwheel and head upward to a Save Point then climb up the ladder. On the next level climb up again to reach the top. [FMV]. Hit the switch on the left. [FMV]. Prepare your junctions for Squall, Rinoa and Irvine. [FMV]. Prepare for battle.

Boss - Seifer

Level: 20, HP: 1,150

Draw: Fire*, Cure*, Life

Strategy: It's a one-on-one between Squall and Seifer. Use Limit Break and normal attacks.

Boss - Edea

Level: 20, HP: 7,000

Draw: Cure*, Dispel, Life, Double

Strategy: Edea only uses magic to attacks but causes considerable damage. Junction Sleep to ST-Atk. While she's asleep, summon GF Diablos. Heal your members to full HP then cast Carbuncle on all of your team to reflect her magic. If Edea uses Dispel, keep summoning Carbuncle to keep her occupied with dispelling your reflect status while the other two members take her out. [FMV].
